System contaminants such as millscale, jointing compounds, and building debris will inevitably be found in newly fabricated pipework systems. Contaminants can cause blockages (e.g. at strainers, control valves & small bore heat exchangers) lead to corrosion and encourage the growth of micro-organisms. The chemicals used for cleaning must be compatible with the system materials and should only be applied by specialists who have experience in dealing with them.
